Tubing Manufacturer NewAge(R) Industries Donates Laptop Computers To School In Rural Cambodia
NewAge recently gave five laptops to the Caramanico School in Ratanakiri, Cambodia, bringing the school's total number to eleven. The company has strong ties to Cambodia, as nearly 30% of its staff is from Cambodia or is of Cambodian descent.
Online, June 23, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Tubing manufacturer NewAge Industries recently donated five Dell laptop computers to the Caramanico School in rural Ratanakiri, Cambodia. The school, built in 2006, is located in one of the poorest provinces in Cambodia and teaches students in seventh, eighth, and ninth grades. This is NewAge's second donation of five laptops and brings the school's total to eleven. The equipment is powered by solar panels that NewAge helped to purchase and have installed.
Why a school in rural Cambodia? Why not someplace closer to home?
To a good portion of the team members employed at NewAge Industries, it is close to home. Nearly 30% of the staff is originally from Cambodia or of Cambodian descent.
"It started with one team member, Nang Chhoeung, over fourteen years ago" notes Ken Baker, CEO. "Nang began working here on our plastic extrusion lines making PVC and polyurethane tubing. We have an employee referral program, and within a few years his sister, Brandy, was also employed here. Friends, other family members, and acquaintances followed."
Today Nang is the day shift supervisor of the company's plastic manufacturing operations. Brandy is a product inspector for its AdvantaPure(R) brand of molded silicone components. The majority of NewAge's Cambodian team members are employed in the silicone extrusion and molding departments.
And NewAge is, in fact, looking to fill a supervisory position in its mold shop. In addition to mechanical abilities, supervisory experience, and other qualifications, candidates must speak Cambodian (also called Khmer) fluently and must read, write, and speak English fluently.
