Treasure Walks Announces Free Trial Period for Walking Tour iPhone Apps

Apps bring a scavenger hunt twist to tour guide apps to create interactive family fun

Treasure Walks, a travel and city guide app developer, today announced a free promotional period for their new series of guided city walk apps. The New York, London and San Francisco versions of the Treasure Walks app are now free for download until June 17, 2012.

The promotional period includes the first three Treasure Walks Apps for iPhone. Treasure Walks New York has tours for Central Park; 5th Ave to Time Square; and, Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. Treasure Walks San Francisco includes Haight Ashbury; Chinatown; and, Hitchcock's Vertigo Tour. Treasure Walks London features the Royal Palaces and Parks; Tudor London; Westminster; and, the river.

Using location-based technology, the Treasure Walks app brings what began as a simple do-it-yourself concept to the iPhone. Users can turn a day of trying to keep kids placated at the Uffizi Gallery into a family-sized adventure. Each Treasure Walks App comes with three separate self-guided walking tours. Treasure Walks put boots on the ground to develop each tour, which takes users to popular tourist sites as well as unique, off-the-beaten-track locations. Each tour takes between 1.5 and 2 hours.

Each tour is also a treasure hunt. The app uses the iPhone's location services to track position and send challenges at specific GPS locations. Answer challenges by text or by picture and earn points for answering correctly. Each tour is timed, and the user with the most points and the fastest time is the winner. Groups with multiple iPhones can separate themselves into teams for competition. When finished, users can share tours on Facebook, or upload it to to the Treasure Walks Leaderboard to see how each user ranks versus other Treasure Walkers.
