Topline Results Reported In Treatment Trial for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer By Local Cancer Center

New Research on The Treatment of Explicit Lung Cancers Indicate Topline Results

Highlands Oncology Group (HOG), Northwest Arkansas' leading cancer research center, recently participated in a groundbreaking study on a new treatment option for non-small cell lung cancer.

The research was administered by Transgene, a French biopharmaceutical company, and Dr. J. Thaddeus Beck, of HOG, served as a local investigator of the study.

The trial evaluated targeted immunotherapy in combination with chemotherapy versus placebo in combination with  chemotherapy, in the first-line treatment of specific advanced non-small cell lung cancer patients, according to Transgene.

Trial investigators of the study reported encouraging results and will begin the process of the next phase of the study, according to Transgene.

Continual research is imperative as lung cancer is a disastrous disease with multitudes of diagnoses each year, many cases resulting in death.

201,144 people in the United States were diagnosed with lung cancer in 2010, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with 158,248 people in the United States dying from the disease that year. More people die from lung cancer in the U.S. than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined.

Transgene is focused on discovering, developing and manufacturing targeted immunotherapies for the treatment of oncology and infectious diseases, according to the company's website.

As the leading cancer treatment and research facility in Northwest Arkansas, HOG is dedicated to the advancement of cancer treatment to provide patients with the best possible care and results.
