The law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce Managing Partner Emily A. Parker has been appointed to the Best Lawyers® Advisory Board, an invitation-only group of international leaders from the world's leading law firms and General Counsel of Fortune 500 and Fortune's Global 500 companies.

As the first female lawyer hired at Thompson & Knight in 1973 and now its first female managing partner, Parker is the chief executive and in charge of the Firm's day-to-day operations, including overseeing more than 300 attorneys and 275 legal support and administrative staff members, and chairs the Firm's management committee, which is responsible for the Firm's strategies and policies. Parker has represented large corporate taxpayers in more than 20 reported cases, including milestone cases in the oil and gas industry and in the estate tax area. From 2002 to 2004, Parker served as Deputy Chief Counsel and later as Acting Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service, making her the only woman in U.S. history to lead the IRS legal team.

Parker has been named a top lawyer in multiple publications and has been appointed to leadership posts in local and state bar organizations and the American Bar Association Section of Taxation. She is consistently recognized for her expertise in tax litigation by Chambers USA and The Best Lawyers in America® where, in 2010 and 2012, she was named the Dallas Litigation & Controversy-Tax Lawyer of the Year. She has been honored with the 2012 Dallas Business Journal's Women in Business Award, which recognizes exemplary businesswomen from the Dallas-Fort Worth market with a strong professional background in addition to demonstrated work in community service. She was selected as the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law Distinguished Alumni for Government Service and is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.
