The World's Oldest Steinway Piano Found In San Antonio
Texas family owns oldest known Steinway piano in the world.
Online, July 19, 2010 (Newswire.com) - San Antonio, Texas. When Harold Krueger received the letter with the good news from Steinway & Sons, he couldn't believe it.
Steinway & Sons, established in the 1800's and known for the famous Steinway Grand Piano, launched a worldwide search to find the oldest intact Steinway piano.
The winning piano has been in the same family since purchased in Chicago in 1859. Handed down from generation to generation, Krueger noted that children were not allowed to play the instrument.
It is interesting to note that while, another similar piano exists at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC, it does not have the original inner workings. Thus, the contest winning piano is in deed the oldest known intact (original parts) piano in the world.
