The White House Taps FASTPORT for Key Role in Administration's Trucking Action Plan

Recognizing the critical importance of trucking to the supply chain and overall economy, and how registered apprenticeships can quickly bring skilled talent into the market, the Biden-Harris Administration has selected FASTPORT for a key role in their Trucking Action Plan.
FASTPORT Executive Director Dave Harrison

FASTPORT, a Department of Labor national apprenticeship industry intermediary partner with a focus on the transportation sector, is committing to work with trucking employers, unions, and industry associations to establish Registered Apprenticeship programs for their organizations in as little as 48 hours.

"The driver shortage is an issue that affects every American, and we are proud to be a part of this bipartisan effort," said FASTPORT executive director of workforce development Dave Harrison. "Registered apprenticeships are a proven way of quickly developing a highly skilled workforce. It gives employers a tremendous tool to help bring more qualified people into the transportation and logistics industry," he added.

"Every company in the transportation, logistics and distribution sector is facing workforce issues right now. By streamlining the registration process, our goal is to accelerate program development with stakeholders across the nation. These are employer-driven programs that combine on-the-job learning with job-related instruction to build worker skills and establish pathways to higher levels of employment and wages," said Brad Bentley, FASTPORT president.

FASTPORT was selected by the Biden-Harris Administration because of their tremendous success in the transportation sector and work with transitioning military veterans. To date, they have already helped organizations recruit and hire more than 16,000 apprentices. In just the first few days since the announcement was made, FASTPORT has already received requests from more than 100 organizations to develop a registered apprenticeship program. "We have streamlined the process for Companies. Our team is fast-tracking every request, and our goal is to get these new apprenticeships rolling within 48 hours," added Dave Harrison.
