"The Trigonometer": Educational Tool to Learn Conversion of Trigonometric Ratios of Certain Standard Compound Angles

The Trigonometer is an educational aid for the subject of trigonometry. The design intent is to provide high school and college students with a tool that facilitates the mastering of the conversion of trigonometric ratios of certain standard compound angles. The Trigonometer can also be used as a testing tool, once the complete table is learned.

The Trigonometer is comprised of two flat, circular plastic coated sheets joined together via a small, centrally positioned metal ring. Measuring approximately nine inches in diameter, the unit's upper level would feature three vertically positioned open slots, or windows, in the top section. These “windows” serve to display the printed information on the lower level of the Trigonometer, containing the conversion tables of standard compound angles. An example is provided for how the Trigonometer works. For a ratio, a user rotates the top level of the Trigonometer so that the conversions show through their respective windows with this process repeated for all the angles. It is useful to convert quickly and easily to solve trigonometric problems involving compound angles. The tables that are present on the back side are like ready reckoners and students can solve the problems or prove facts using these tables. It is also useful to learn and memorize by following the presented techniques. The Trigonometer gives a clear picture of the sign as well as the final converted trigonometric ratio, depending on the type of the compound angle given. Televised test marketing has recently been completed indicating strong consumer interest in Trigonometer. 
 
The Patent Pending Trigonometer was invented by Chandrasekhar Anumapuram of Iselin, NJ   who said, “The Trigonometer is useful for students who are just beginning to grasp trigonometric concepts and learning conversion tables. It also is useful for self-practice to learn but can also be used for self-testing as well as testing others. It saves endless hours of frustration in trying to learn and convey these important tenets for high school and college math students.  It works.”
