The Society of American Foresters (SAF) and #forestproud Announce Merger

The Society of American Foresters (SAF) and #forestproud are pleased to announce that the forest communications platform is now a program of SAF.

This agreement allows for the communications prowess of #forestproud to combine with the technical and scientific expertise of SAF and its members, substantially increasing the positive impact and support they can add to North America's forests — both urban and rural.

By adding a cutting-edge communications platform like #forestproud to the sector's premier professional organization, SAF is strengthening its ability to fulfill its mission and advance the sustainable management of forests through science, education, and technology.

"This merger represents a turning point for SAF," said SAF Chief Executive Officer Terry Baker about the announcement. "There are many pressures and interests impacting our forests and natural areas. They are compounded by misinformation and conflicting science. Making a premier communications platform and team part of SAF will help us engage broader audiences about science-based, sustainable management and those who steward our nation's forests and natural areas. This is our time to take strategic yet bold steps communicating to as wide an audience as possible for better understanding of preserving, conserving, and actively managing our forests."

Colin Moseley, the Chairman of Green Diamond Resource Company and Chair of the #forestproud Board of Directors, echoed Baker's enthusiasm for the announcement, adding, "SAF is a fantastic organization with an incredible history and proven track record of advancing sustainable forest management. Adding a new communications dynamic to that work is truly a win for our forests and makes both organizations stronger."

Together, these two organizations strengthen the sector's collective effort to position forests — and the professionals charged with their care — as a powerful solution to society's most pressing challenges.
