On January 15, The National Conference Center (The National), a GSA approved property, began serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner to Loudoun County’s furloughed federal workers and their families. On January 23, The National announced that they will extend complimentary dining to all metro area federal employees affected by the furlough and will continue the program one week after the federal government fully reopens. To date, over 550 furloughed employees and family members have dined at The National through the initiative.

The National issues one dining ticket per weekday to furloughed employees who show their federal ID at the front desk beginning at 7am, Monday through Friday. All meals are served in The National’s Dining Room which features an all-you-care-to-eat buffet with a variety of food and beverage offerings.

The National launched the initiative in conjunction with Chair Phyllis Randall and the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to provide meals to some of the 15,000 – 20,000 federal workers who live in Loudoun and are affected by the partial government shutdown. The shutdown is in its fifth week, the longest-running in U.S. history.  Recognizing the need extends beyond Loudoun, The National Conference Center aims to broaden their impact by opening the program to the 350,000 government employees who reside within the greater Washington metropolitan area.

“We are happy to join other relief efforts across the region to assist federal workers and their families, who have now missed multiple paychecks and we will continue to provide support until their financial burden is lifted,” said Vice President & General Manager Geoff Lawson. “The National Conference Center is honored to count federal agencies and organizations among our top clients for than forty years, and we feel moved to help our community during this time.”
