The Metro Detroit Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women Supports "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence"

Rochester Hills, Michigan, November 23, 2016 (Newswire.com) - The “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” campaign is a time to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world.  This international social media campaign runs from 25 November, (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), to 10 December, (Human Rights Day). Currently, more than 3,700 organizations from approximately 164 countries participate in the campaign annually.

Each year, the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” campaign builds upon a theme. For 2016, the theme is focused on the need for sustainable financing for efforts to end violence against women and girls towards the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“Although violence against women and girls has become part of the public discourse, more   needs to be achieved in this area,” states Lori Blaker, President of the Metro Detroit Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women and president of TTi Global an international training and staffing company headquartered in Rochester Hills, Michigan..  “We still see a gross disproportion of violence, especially sexual violence committed against women in regions throughout the world.”

The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women is the only global grant-making mechanism dedicated to eradicating all forms of violence against women and girls. It has focused on the prevention of violence, implementation of laws and policies, and improving access to vital services for survivors.
