The Lone Ranger Rides Again in Cowboys & Indians Magazine

Cowboys & Indians spotlights producer Jerry Bruckheimer's upcoming reboot of The Lone Ranger with Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp in its May/June 2013 issue

Cowboys & Indians will return to those thrilling days of yesteryear - and preview this year's most eagerly awaited summer blockbuster - when The Premier Magazine of the West spotlights producer Jerry Bruckheimer's upcoming reboot of The Lone Ranger in a special Best of the West May/June issue.

Rising actor Armie Hammer - who stars as the man in the black mask opposite superstar Johnny Depp as the heroic Tonto - graces the cover of this collector's edition issue and figures prominently in the preview story by C&I contributor Wendy Wilkinson.

"It was so amazing to be able to do a big western like The Lone Ranger," Hammer says. "They don't make many movies like this anymore. Westerns are exclusively American. This country was the last frontier, and to be able to spend six months on the Western frontier, finding a sense of self-worth and exploration, was an experience I'll probably never have again."

Elsewhere in the Best of the West issue, C&I writers and editors wax enthusiastic for 20 Western essentials - everything from the cast-iron skillet and the saddlebag to the Pendleton blanket and the Winchester rifle - and pay tribute to such notables as up-and-coming Navajo artist Patrick Dean Hubbell, The Band Perry, and the late, great Harry Carey Jr. Chuck Thompson details the quest for king salmon that unites bush pilots, fishermen, tourists, miners, Eskimos, and lawyers in the wilds of western Alaska. And Shooter Jennings, the proud son of a country music outlaw, talks about making his own kind of music with C&I website editor Hunter Hauk.
