The Law Firm of Carlton F. Bennett Is Offering Free Rides in Virginia Beach for Those Who Drink This St. Patrick's Day
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., March 14, 2023 (Newswire.com) - For those planning on celebrating St. Patrick's Day this year by going out and drinking, The Law Firm of Carlton F. Bennett, P.L.L.C. wants them to stay safe. That's why they started the Go With Safety sober rides program. The aim of this program is to help reduce drunk driving accidents in Virginia Beach by reimbursing legal drinkers for taking a taxi or rideshare service home instead of driving.
Virginia Drunk Driving Statistics
Alcohol-related accidents in Virginia are a major problem. According to crash data released by the Virginia Highway Safety Office, there were a total of 118,498 accidents in the state in 2021. However, while crashes involving alcohol accounted for only around 5% of all accidents, they caused 25% of all fatalities. In fact, despite the fact that the overall number of accidents have decreased since 2017, the death rate on Virginia roads has increased.
Virginia Beach also happens to be one of the most dangerous cities in the state when it comes to drunk driving. In 2021 alone, Virginia Beach had 418 alcohol-related accidents, causing 19 deaths and 248 injuries. This means that around 8% of all drunk driving deaths in the state happened in Virginia Beach.
How the St. Patrick's Day Free Rides Works
To participate in the Go With Safety sober rides program, all people need to do is take a ride in a taxi or rideshare to a safe destination during the holiday. Eligible rides must occur between 8 p.m. on March 16, 2023, and 10 a.m. on March 18, 2023.
After they take their ride, they can go to this page and follow the instructions. If eligible, The Law Firm of Carlton F. Bennett will send a reimbursement for the ride. Keep in mind that these rules apply to the free ride in Virginia Beach:
- The ride must begin or end in Virginia Beach or the surrounding metro area;
- Reimbursement is limited to a maximum value of $30, including tip;
- Participants must be 21 years of age or older to qualify;
- Program is limited to the first 25 reimbursement requests; and
- Requests must be submitted within seven days of the holiday.
