After a long development period, an electronic visa system for Laos has finally been introduced in a move to facilitate the visa application process for eligible foreign nationals. Citizens of 180 eligible countries are now able to apply online for a Laos eVisa for tourism purposes before traveling to the country.

The Laos eVisa has been launched on July 9, 2019 and has eliminated the need to go to an embassy or consulate to apply for a travel authorization to visit Laos, or the need to wait in long queues to fill out a Laos visa on arrival application at the border.

The Laos online visa is a single-entry visa which grants its holder a stay of up to 30 consecutive days in Laos for tourism purposes, and can be obtained through a simple online application form.

Applicants for the Laos eVisa must be nationals from an eligible country and have a passport with a validity of at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Laos. The Laos eVisa requirements also involve the applicant supplying a current email address at which to receive an approved Laos online visa.

Completing the Laos online visa application is simple and straightforward. Applicants are required to fill in the online form with basic personal and passport information, such as name, date of birth, travel document number, and travel plans for the stay in Laos.

To successfully complete the Laos application, eligible travelers also need to provide a recent passport-style photograph and their passport bio page.

After the application form has been completed it is necessary to pay a visa fee using a credit or debit card. The Laos visa online is sent to the email address provided after an application has been successfully processed. Then, the traveler is able to print a copy to present at the Laos border to gain expedited entry into the country.

Applicants are required to apply for the eVisa at least 7 days before traveling to Laos. Most applications will take 3 business days to process.

To avoid delays or possible rejections, applicants should carefully enter and revise all of the information they provide on the Laos eVisa application. Any inaccuracies can lead to an application not being approved.

Laos is a unique and diverse tropical country with a huge range of natural, cultural, and historical attractions to explore. The only landlocked country in Southeast Asia, an increasing number of visitors are being drawn to Laos to explore its ancient ruins, lush mountainous jungles, stunning waterfalls, and rich gastronomy.

The new eVisa for Laos makes it even easier to enjoy a holiday in the country. Not only does it save time during the application process, but as travelers have already been pre-screened by the authorities, it also saves time at the border.

Visitors are required to present the copy of the eVisa alongside the associated passport on arrival to gain expedited entry to Laos. Applicants with two passports because of dual nationality should be aware that it is essential to travel to Laos with the same passport as that used to complete the eVisa application.

As the eVisa for Laos, now available, greatly simplifies the application process for obtaining a tourist visa, the Ministry of Tourism in Laos is hoping that the system will greatly increase the number of tourists who decide to come and explore the country on holiday.
