The Florida Writer's Association Presents The Daytona Beach Mini-Conference

Saturday, May 16, 2015, starting at 8:30 AM at Port Orange, Florida's Grace Episcopal Church

The Florida Writer’s Association will present the Daytona Beach Mini-Conference on Saturday, May 16, 2015, starting at 8:30 AM.  Taking place at Port Orange, Florida’s Grace Episcopal Church (4110 South Ridgewood Avenue), the Mini-Conference includes sessions in historical fiction and sci-fi/fantasy.

Award-winning author and playwright Veronica Helen Hart will lead a workshop in historical fiction writing.  In order to write historical fiction, it is not necessary to have a degree in history, but it is necessary to be prepared to do research to maintain credibility. In this full-day workshop, Hart will create an outline for historical novels and explain the importance of keeping settings, characters, clothing, dialogue and even plot true to a certain time period.

An author of novels and non-fiction works, A.J. Robinson will teach a workshop in sci-fi/fantasy writing.  Science-fiction and fantasy rank as two of the most unique genres of fiction, in that the author has almost complete freedom when it comes to creating the world(s) of the story. Yet, that freedom comes at a price. A writer who creates something that is too complex or different, risks losing readers.  Robinson will offer tips on navigating the unique elements of sci-fi/fantasy and discuss different methods for building good stories.

Registration is $79 for Florida Writers Association members and $99 for non-members. Registration price includes continental breakfast, lunch and snacks. To register in advance, visit https://floridawriters.net/shop/daytona-beach-mini-conference/ .
