"The EZ Stop Wheelchair Brake": An Attachable Braking System for Wheelchairs

Invents unveils "The EZ Stop Wheelchair Brake" which is a super safety factor for all users.

According to the Internet, the first wheelchair patent was issued in the United States in 1869 and in 1933 the first steel, lightweight, collapsible wheelchair was invented and the demand for wheelchairs is increasing every year, partly due to the advancing age of baby boomers. Caregivers often deplore their ability to control/stop a wheelchair in a dangerous situation. The EZ Stop Wheelchair Brake-Wheelchair Brake and Attachment Bracket is an attachable braking system for wheelchairs. It features an attachable bar-mounted caliper brake and a brake lever which attaches near one of the rear wheelchair handles. This braking system allows anyone pushing the wheelchair to apply the brake and stop the chair simply by squeezing the brake lever, similar to that on a bicycle.

The EZ Stop Wheelchair Brake is comprised of a brake lever designed to be attached to the handle of the wheelchair via an integrated mount; a caliper brake and integrated bar mount (to attach near the wheel of the wheelchair); and a cable which attaches the brake lever and caliper brake to each other to form a working brake system. It enables caretakers to stop the wheelchair from moving immediately which promotes safety for the occupant, the chair and the caregiver. Televised test marketing has recently been completed indicating strong consumer interest in EZ Stop Wheelchair Brake-Wheelchair Brake and Attachment Bracket.

The Patent Pending EZ Stop Wheelchair Brake-Wheelchair Brake and Attachment Bracket was invented by David Zellers of Kunkletown, PA who said, “The braking system is easy to install and is a necessary part of safe movement for anyone in a wheelchair and their caregiver. Close to two million wheelchair users are 65 years of age or over and need the aid of someone to push (and stop) their chair on demand. The EZ Stop Wheelchair Brake-Wheelchair Brake and Attachment Bracket is the perfect solution for them and others using this type of mobility.”
