Online, May 27, 2011 (Newswire.com) - An event took place in the municipalities of Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo in which a delegation from the Republic of Turkey, presided by Mr Eyup Yahsi, Deputy General Director from the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Forestry, was shown the waste treatment system and environmental management used by these towns from the north of Madrid. A visit was made to the chemical pharmaceutical company COVEX, which had been chosen by the Madrid authorities as an example of waste elimination and management. The visit from the delegation of the Turkish Ministry of Environment forms part of cooperation programs signed between Poland, Portugal and Spain intended to offer useful advice to the Turkish government regarding the implementation of European legislation, with a particular focus on putting into practice Law 16/2002 as developed by the European IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention).
Participating in the conference held at the Tres Cantos Town Council were Mr Juan Carlos Castro DÃaz representing the Madrid Ministry of Environment, and Dr. Fernando Calvo who gave a presentational account of Covex´s trajectory in terms of its adaptation to the environmental legislation.
As Dr. Calvo explained, in the year 2006 Covex S.A. applied for the Integrated Environmental Authorization in pursuance to the Law 16/2002 which sets out the environmental management guidelines throughout the whole company, and he informed about the steps followed to obtain it. On its part, the town council of Colmenar Viejo, where there is a high concentration of industrial activity, described its local waste treatment and elimination system, which is one of the most advanced in the region.
