The Badass Bitches of the Met Tour - an Entirely New Feminist Experience
New York City, New York , April 11, 2016 (Newswire.com) - How do you define a badass bitch? Museum Hack defines it as a woman who refuses to have her edges filed down to fit a mold. She pushes back when pressured to be quieter, to be nicer, to smile more, to sacrifice essential parts of herself to make things easier for other people. She sees bull***t and she calls it.
Hillary Clinton, Malala Yousafzai, Nicki Minaj, & Cecile Richards are all excellent examples of what a badass bitch is today; but who are the women that pioneered feminism? Museum Hack’s Badass Bitches tour answers that question by showcasing heroines from 4500 BC through modern day.
I've assembled a tour that not only features the stories of amazing female artists and subjects of the art, but also outlines the insane discrepancy between how art by women and art by men is valued in the museum world today.

In antecedent history, the word bitch has a pejorative connotation; any unabashed, unapologetic woman was frequently referred to as one. Museum Hack is working to change that perception by reappropriating the word and redefining what a badass bitch is. They are doing this by revealing the historic triumphs women have achieved throughout the ages, regardless of the consequences. They believe the status of badass bitch is something to aspire to, not shy away from.
Public tours begin April 9th and run through the end of July. Museum Hack also offers this tour to corporate groups, which are customized to encourage team building and foster ‘Women’s Leadership Training’ in enterprise organizations, as Elizabeth Arden’s team can attest to here. These empowering tours are neither associated with nor endorsed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Kate Downey, Creator of the Badass Bitches tour, describes her inspiration, "I realized most of the artists, famous figures and scandal-makers that I (and most other guides) were telling stories about were men. Where were the stories of awesome, kick-ass, rebellious and DGAF ladies like us in art history? After some frenzied research, interviews, and a lot of "no, that can't possibly be true", I've assembled a tour that not only features the stories of amazing female artists and subjects of the art, but also outlines the insane discrepancy between how art by women and art by men is valued in the museum world today. The tour also creates opportunity for activism, all without hating on dudes, or getting depressed."
Museum Hack’s goal is to reinvent the adult museum experience for the next generation. They believe the best way to do this is through fun, provocative tours that blend modern interests and topical information with historic artifacts. Each tour is uniquely curated, exhibit and tour guide specific – that is to say, no two tours are alike. The only parallel is that each tour features the greatest stories of the greatest pieces on display.
