Testing for Lead Paint with the Wrong Testing Kit Could Spell Disaster

Lead Paint abatement is a serious undertaking that should be done by certified professionals. It requires that you have proper training, work documentation, and that you use the proper equipment for any given situation. Learn with this release.

The Lead Paint Forms Store is a Division of Nationwide Local Contractors and provides training, supplies, and EPA compliance forms for Construction Contractors that have the EPA RRP Lead Paint Certification.

Based out of Portland, Oregon the Lead Paint Forms Store was started by Ted Johnson, Cecilia Alvarez, and Dave Carl who are all Accredited EPA Lead Paint Trainers through the National Center for Healthy Housing. They have trained over 2,000 construction contractors throughout Oregon, Washington, and Guam.

They became accredited to teach the EPA Lead Paint RRP classes in May of 2010. During these early classes many of the contractors they were teaching were asking where they could get the forms and documentation they needed to stay in compliance. After careful research they found that there were no resources for such forms and they decided to develop a forms bundle for the contractors they were teaching. The forms were an instant success and that spurred the beginning of the Lead Paint Forms Store.

The Lead Paint Compliance Kit is their flagship product withclose to 10,000 contractors now using this product nationwide to help them stay compliant with the EPA regulations and laws concerning Lead Paint. The Compliance Kit contains the forms needed to document both residential and HUD jobs. Some states do require extra documentation or State Specific forms but the materials in the Lead Paint Compliance Kit are still an integral part of the documentation they need to fill out.

The Compliance Kit also provides instructional material and reference guides to help the Contractor determine which forms need to be used. In addition there are checklists and decision charts that the contractor can use to help them decide what procedures and materials they need for each job.

The kits are available in 2 different configurations; Standard and Deluxe. The Standard Kit simply has the forms where the Deluxe kit has not only the forms but LeadCheck testing swabs, Tyvek style suits, and 24 Renovate Rights which are the pamphlets developed by the EPA that contractors are required to give each property owner and tenant.

Just recently the Lead Paint Forms Store released a Video to help train the non-certified workers / employees of the company. The EPA requires that all workers who work in a Lead Paint environment go through special training conducted by the Certified Renovator (the person at the company who has gone through the formal RRP 8 hour certification course) prior to the start of the job. This video helps the Certified Renovator train their workers on the 11 skill sets required by the EPA.

In addition to the Video the contractor also receives a CD with the workers training guide called Lead Safe in both Spanish and English. This guide must be used while training the non-certified workers.

Also included with the video is 1) a pad of 25 "non-certified" workers training forms that will help the contractor document the training and when it was conducted and 2) a video on how determine what documents must be filled out to stay compliant with the RRP Lead Paint rules and regulations.

Very soon the Lead Paint Forms Store will be offering training for Lead Dust Sampling Technicians. This is an 8-hour training that certifies the contractor on how to test a home for existing Lead Dust. Just a note, as of the date this article was written the EPA does not let the contractor sample their own worksites for the cleaning examination.

The Lead Paint Forms Store also offers a wide variety of supplies to the Lead Paint Contractor. They offer LeadCheck testing swabs, D-Lead testing kits, Tyvek style suits, D-Lead wipes, Renovate Rights, individual compliance forms, and much more.

The Lead Paint Forms Store offers both of the approved Lead Testing Kits (LeadCheck and D-Lead) because contractors need to have both of them to insure they have the right testing kits when they Test For Lead Paint. LeadChecks cannot be used on plaster and drywall but are an extremely fast and reliable way to check for Lead Paint on solid wood surfaces. D-Lead works on all surfaces (including plaster and drywall) but it can take up to 20 minutes to get the results.

In addition to the forms and supplies the Lead Paint Forms Store offers continuing education classes and materials to contractors licensed in Oregon. Topics such as Time Management for Contractors, Postcard Marketing for Contractors, Insurance Pitfalls, Image and Branding, are just a few of the topics offered. They are also in the process of offering the required "core" classes that the State of Oregon is now requiring.

On Friday August 26th, 2011 the Lead Paint Forms Store in conjunction with Nationwide Local Contractors will be holding a full day CE conference for Oregon Contractors in Clackamas. Attending contractors will get "8" continuing education hours for attending and will be given a vast array of education develop specifically for construction contractors.

The Lead Paint Forms Store is dedicated to providing the Construction Contractor with the training, supplies, and compliance materials needed to compete and stay compliant in today's ever-changing environment.
