Online, December 28, 2013 (Newswire.com) - TERI University (TERI U) has announced the second edition of BLISS (Building Learning in Sustainability Science) - its annual international summer school program. The program, scheduled between March 10th and March 14th, 2014, will be delivered at the TERI U campus as well as online, by a faculty shortlisted from the global diaspora of experts on the outlined subjects. The Registration for the program has begun with effect from 16th December, 2013.
BLISS was launched last year (2013) with the dual objective of increasing awareness about environmental issues and sustainable development and also to generate interest of youth in sustainability science and the career opportunities offered by it. The first edition was attended on-campus by 81 students, and by another 70 students online.
"This year BLISS will be a lot more interactive, with case discussions, problem solving, business games and interactive sessions ruling the roost," says Prof. Sapna A. Narula, the Program Director. "Based on last year's feedback from participants and brainstorming sessions amongst the designers of the program, we have re-engineered the themes to include more contemporary topics. Beside subjects like Sustainable Development Challenges and Sustainability Science, we have included new themes such as Leadership for Business Sustainability, Regulatory and Policy Drivers, Career Opportunities in Sustainability .Business."
Apart from Scientists and Researchers from TERI and TERI University, BLISS 2014 will include key speakers from the global academia, as well as eminent practitioners from the corporate sector. The 5-day program will pursue the central theme of 'Embracing People and Planet'.
"My participation in BLISS 2013 was my greatest achievement for the year 2013," says David Michael, a student from Nigeria, who has ever since taken up a full-fledged Masters course at TERI University. "Meeting other young people from different academic disciplines was an interesting and rewarding experience for me. The talks were very educative and thought provoking, the discussions that followed each talk was an icing on the cake. Upon returning to my country I took action by founding an NGO called Our Environment - Our Future.
"BLISS is a commitment of TERI University to the society," says Dr. Rajiv Seth, Registrar, TERI U. "It is aimed at creating a society far more receptive to the needs of the environment, and therefore adept at creating businesses where man can live in harmony with nature. After attending BLISS, the participants will gain a holistic understanding of where we stand today vis-à-vis our desired goals on environment and its sustainability, and how we can achieve those goals." Would prefer one more participant feedback if possible
The program is particularly relevant for students who would like to explore the challenges and issues facing environment and sustainable development and the career opportunities available in this field. Deepti Mahajan was working with Google prior to participating in BLISS 2013 and for her, the experience was "life changing." She further adds- "BLISS gave me a spectrum of new opportunities where I interacted with students and entrepreneurs from all over the world and exchanged knowledge. The lectures from distinguished personalities opened up a new horizon in understanding the micro and macro perspectives of sustainability. Being a professional with Google, participation in BLISS gave me a wider and responsible outlook of life on professional as well as personal level." Post attending BLISS, Deepti chose to do her MBA in Business Sustainability from TERI University.
