Teen for County Commissioner

Andrew Edwards, a Louisville KY teen, is announcing his candidacy to County Commissioner District C. If elected he would be the youngest elected official in Kentucky history.

I, Andrew S. Edwards, am announcing my candidacy to County Commissioner, District C for the Republican Party to the news today. Taking this responsibility, I am also making a place in history for the city of Louisville. I would be the youngest candidate (and if I win, the youngest elected official) in the History of Kentucky!

We base the legality of running off of the following laws and seek the courts approval with them:

KRS 67C.103/67C.105- States the Louisville, KY election laws and representation will be different than the rest of the state. This does not mention County Commissioner, but implies that it a nearly obsolete position. Due to these factors we will assume you must be a legal citizen and a resident of that district (therefore I qualify).

KRS 63.220- States vacant position laws, yet fails to mention County Commissioner for vacant position laws; therefore we will look at Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution for reference. With this I may have a local or state official nominate me to the candidacy of the position being 18, a registered voter, and a resident of my district.

KRS 118.105/83A.175- State that in a case of vacant position and/or vacant candidacy (this being both) I must get at least 2 notarized signatures of registered voters and must get a nomination from an elected member of my party. It does not mention needing to meet age requirements, but respectfully I do meet (as stated above) registered voter, registered republican, and a resident of my district.

Legal Reference to Other Situations- State of Ohio (bordering state) at 18 years old you may hold ANY local or state position. State of West Virginia (bordering state) at 18 years old you may hold local or state legislator position. These examples of law show that on a national standard and basis, an 18 year old may run for local position.

In the words of a good friend "why, at 18 years old can a man die for his country but he cannot lead them?" I am choosing to lead. Therefore I, Andrew S. Edwards, announce my candidacy for County Commissioner District C, Jefferson County, Kentucky for the 2010 election. I will now start my petition of nomination.
This nation and state is calling for change, and now we can provide it to them all. I assure everyone that I have done thorough research and I am fully prepared for any responsibility this position has (though, due to current law, it has very little). I thank all my supporters out there, and I hope for the best for the monumental election!
