Tee Off With the Survivor Fund at the Florida Show

Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge

The International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum invites the towing industry to swing into action at the 13th annual Survivor Fund Golf Classic to be held in April in Orlando during the Florida Tow Show.

The golf classic is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden, Florida, just minutes from the Disney World attractions and the Florida Tow Show, the nation's largest towing and recovery industry event that takes place each year in Orlando.

In its 12 years of fund-raising, the golf classic has generated more than $140,000 benefiting families of tow industry workers who have died in the line of service.

"This commitment by those who support our efforts has allowed us to continue to raise the death benefit to families of those men and women killed in the line of service in the towing and road service industry," said Jeffrey Godwin, vice president of the International Towing Museum and chair of its Survivor Fund.

The fatality rate in the motor vehicle towing industry unfortunately is 15 times higher than for other private industries, according to a study by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which is part of the Centers for Disease Control. The leading cause of death is motor vehicle incidents.

The Survivor Fund aims to help bereaved families by awarding death benefits of between $7,000 and $9,500 to qualified families. The Survivor Fund was started in 2006, and has increased the death benefit throughout the years thanks to industry support.

"The support of the Survivor Fund by our industry has allowed us to make a significant increase to the amount we are able to provide families going forward,” according to Godwin.

The golf classic will include a day of golf for $140 per person, including golf cart, goodie bag and lunch. Other activities include putting and hole-in-one contests, closest to the pin, longest drive, and four-person scramble, among others, as well as team prizes.

The event will take place in conjunction with the Florida Tow Show, which draws thousands of companies and participants each year.

Join the fun and contribute to a good cause. "We look forward to many more successful years of the tournament and its contribution to the important work of the Survivor Fund,” Godwin said.
