Technology Outlook for China - Komaki Group

Komaki Group: Continued growth in the use of mobile devices will drive the Chinese ecommerce market beyond $1trn by 2019.

Komaki Group has reiterated its continuing bullishness towards the future in e-commerce in general and in China’s online shopping revolution in particular.

Tech-sector analysts at the firm cite a recent report by research group, Forresters which predicts the Chinese market alone will generate revenue for retailers in the region of $1 trillion by 2019.

"The proliferation of lower-priced smartphones and tablets means that many more consumers are able to get online and buy more goods and services from retailers using platforms operated by the likes of Alibaba and JD.com"

“The proliferation of lower-priced smartphones and tablets means that many more consumers are able to get online and buy more goods and services from retailers using platforms operated by the likes of Alibaba and JD.com”, said an Komaki Group e-commerce analyst.

China is already the world’s largest e-commerce market, a title it’s held since 2013 when total sales surpassed $307 billion. Forrester’s report estimates this will rise to $440 billion in 2014 and continue to expand at a compound rate of close to 20% each year until it hits $1 trillion in 2019.

“Alibaba and JD.com dominate China’s e-commerce market holding 57% and 21% respectively but Alibaba is the clear winner in terms of mobile e-commerce with the mobile apps for its two most popular platforms, TMall and Taobao accounting for 85% between them,” added the Komaki Group analyst.

Alibaba Holdings’ IPO in fall of 2014 was the biggest in US corporate history raising $25 billion when it listed on the NYSE. It continues to invest heavily both in ongoing development of its mobile presence and also in the improvement of logistics tie ups in the hope of making same day deliveries commonplace.
