Teachers need funding in order to buy supplies needed to facilitate learning, plan educational field trips, launch projects with their students, and more. Despite their meager salaries, teachers are spending out of pocket to cover these costs or are foregoing projects altogether because they can’t afford them. Now a new fundraising tool is being launched to help teachers cover these costs. TeacherFunder is launching their service on Jan. 15, 2019 and their search bar on Dec 21, 2018.

A study by the National Center of Education Statistics, highlighted in USA Today in May 2018, noted that 94 percent of public-school teachers report paying out of pocket for school supplies like notebooks, pens, and other supplies during the 2014-2015 school year. According to the report, they spend nearly $480 a year, more than the federal $250 tax deduction available to teachers covers.

TeacherFunder is a crowdfunding and social platform that enables teachers to register, set up a profile, which includes a photo and short bio, and let potential donors know why they need funding and how they will use it. Teachers can then share the link to their profile with their connections including students and their parents, friends, family and more.

“We are pleased to offer this new crowdfunding source designed especially for hard-working teachers who are very frequently underpaid as it is. TeacherFunder is the way teachers will stop having to stretch already limited dollars to fund important classroom supply needs and other learning initiatives. Through TeacherFunder, everyone will have a chance to support teachers,” says Michael Paladino, CEO of TeacherFunder.

Donations made on the TeacherFunder platform are shared directly with the teacher. To learn more about this new fundraising tool for teachers or to create a profile, visit TeacherFunder.com.
