Student Loan Repayment Can Be a Struggle, But AFBC Clients Don't Have to Go at It Alone

Worried

The idea of going to college, getting a degree and then getting a job relating to the chosen field of education is a dream that doesn’t pan out for everyone. When there are student loans to be repaid, joblessness isn’t an option for most borrowers. American Financial Benefits Center (AFBC), a document preparation service company that has helped many borrowers apply for federal repayment programs, understands that life doesn’t often go according to even the best of plans.

“Times are tough for many student loan borrowers, both in finding jobs that they can support themselves with and affording basic necessities alongside repayment,” said Sara Molina, manager at AFBC. Many people have tried to access the help of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, but various factors, like an inability to a get job in the government sector due to budget cuts, keep people from doing so. Those factors don’t even include the troubles that people who are in PSLFs experience, like servicers losing track of borrowers’ payments. Struggling with services and repayments is something that borrowers may feel is too much to handle on their own.

AFBC has been there for thousands of qualified borrowers to help them with applying for federal income-driven repayment programs that have potentially lowered borrowers' monthly payments and gotten them on track for student loan forgiveness after 20-25 years of remaining in such programs. AFBC also helps clients understand their situation with their loans and helps with the yearly recertification process. “We at AFBC feel borrowers shouldn’t have to struggle with repayment, and we aim to help them achieve financial wellness in the ways that we can,” said Molina.
