SPEX CertiPrep Goes Green with Solar Panels
SPEX CertiPrep now has installed Solar Panels on the roof of our Metuchen, NJ headquarters.
Online, December 13, 2010 (Newswire.com) - SPEX CertiPrep now has 335 Solar Panels installed on the roof of our Metuchen, NJ headquarters. The panels create an 85 kW Solar System to help to reduce the pollutants in our air by decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide or mercury released into the atmosphere. This newest green initiative is actively contributing to the decrease of harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

As the growing concerns about the environment, global warming, and rising commodity prices flood the news and have come to dominate discussions worldwide, it was time for us to take it to the next level to continuously achieve specific, quantifiable goals in order to further make our facilities more environmentally friendly.
Solar energy does not require any fuel and is not affected by the supply and demand of fuel. This allows us to run more efficiently and reduce electrical overhead. Solar energy is also clean, renewable, (unlike gas, oil and coal) and sustainable. Our 85 kW Solar system will produce 85 mWh of electricity per year, saving roughly 100,800 lbs. of coal from being burned, and 40,320 gallons of water. It will also prevent 244 lbs. of NO2/NOx, 911 lbs. of SO4 and 151,200 lbs. of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere per year. 151,200 lbs. of CO2 is the equivalent of planting 30 acres of new trees! It is amazing that just 1 location with this kind of Solar Panel array can do for the environment.
SPEX CertiPrep's sister company, SPEX SamplePrep, installed 140 solar panels on the roof of their Metuchen headquarters, creating a 35 kW system of their own.
