Solar Photo Voltaic Plant as a Solution for Indian Power Shortage Problems

Power Shortage Problem is facing in almost all States in India, due to the lack of Electricity Generation in different mode of Power Energy distribution System. Last Year, the Government of India organized a Solution for solving Power and Energy issues in the Country by developing Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant Cells near Sambhara, a desert city 75 kilometers west of Rajasthan.

This solar photovoltaic plant is able to generate 6.4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. This will come around almost the same quantity of power generated by two 1,000-megawatt coal-fired power plants every year. Tamil Nadu is the only State which is not making major Power Cuts in the Country.

Tamil Nadu power minister Natham R Viswanathan has rebuffed reports in Times of India on power cuts returning to the state in spite of the government assurances to the contrary. Viswanathan said in a letter to the paper that due to a sudden reduction in generation of wind energy - from 3,000MW to 750MW - last week, there was a shortage of about 2,000MW, which was temporary. The state went through some power shortage following some technical issues at Kudankulam nuclear plant. But, the power utility soon ramped up supply by maximizing generation at its own and independent power producers plants and procuring 850MW from captive power producers. He refuted allegations that there were large-scale power cuts on June 3 and 4.

India's biggest oil refineries, owned by Essar and Reliance Industries, have reduced its dependence on oil imports from the Middle East as they are targeting Latin America, Africa, and Canada, where prices have come down on account of subdued demand from the US. Industry experts feel that this shift will help Indian oil companies reduce their dependency on OPEC, making it less prone to the cartel.

Congress leader and former petroleum minister Mani Shankar Aiyar welcomed the move. He said that India has been trying to diversify fuel sources for many years and it is good if it is happening because OPEC doesn't give India concessional rates. He feels that this would help India moderate the impact of hawks in the OPEC.

Mercedes-Benz India has installed a Roof Top-based Solar Plant. The new roof will be deployed on the office building inside its Chakan plant in Pune. The 100-kW solar power rooftop installed on the administrative building has the capacity to generate 150,000 units of power a year in energy conservation as part of its environmental sustainability plan. The solar plant helps the company save around 150,000 Kilo Watts hours a year, the equivalent power used by 400 households.
