Sober College Sponsors the 8th National Collegiate Recovery Conference in Washington, DC and More
Los Angeles, CA, July 10, 2017 (Newswire.com) - Sober College, an industry leading dual diagnosis alcohol and drug treatment center for young adults, announced today it will sponsor and attend the Association for Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) conference on July 11 through 13 at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Sober College will also attend an important national town hall meeting, “America’s Opioid Crisis,” hosted by the ARHE on Wednesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. EST in the university’s Lisner Auditorium. Several senators and congressional members are scheduled to attend and CNN will cover the event. Attendance is free but registration is encouraged, as space is limited.
“Thousands and thousands of Americans are battling opioid addiction on a daily basis, and an alarmingly large majority of them happen to be between the ages of 18 and 26,” says Sober College Co-founder Mindi Levins-Pfeifer. “Being a treatment center that caters to young adults specifically, Sober College has seen firsthand how serious the opioid crisis has become. Our hope is this town hall meeting will generate more awareness and action surrounding the issue in our government and in communities throughout our country. Between the town hall meeting and the conference, all signs point to highly productive and proactive few days in DC.”

The 2017 ARHE conference will mark the 8th National Collegiate Recovery Conference and the 16th National ARS Conference. Annually, the conference brings together top schools, educators, companies, experts, and advocates with the intention of empowering and supporting students as they find balance in their college studies and addiction recovery. A platinum sponsor of the conference, Sober College has long been a major force in advocating for a better college/recovery balance by encouraging its clients to earn college credits while in treatment.
“A college education can be particularly daunting to an individual recovering from addiction,” said Pfeifer. “Knowing this, Sober College introduced a new caliber of addiction treatment for young adults, one that would help them navigate their lives as not only sober individuals but also as sober students. Our clients are able to take on-site accredited college courses in a safe and supportive environment while at our facility, thus setting the stage for an easier and more successful transition after treatment. It is this kind of positive action that the ARHE conference tackles directly, and we are so honored to be a part of it.”
