Silver Eagle Aero Saber Skirt Gains EPA SmartWay Verification for 5.7% Fuel Savings

The Aero Saber aerodynamic-enhancing skirt by Silver Eagle gained EPA SmartWay approval as an 5.7% advanced technology skirt, giving truckers a single source solution for complying with stringent California Air Resources Board legislation.

The Aero Saber, a new aerodynamic-enhancing trailer skirt from Silver Eagle Manufacturing that improves fuel efficiency by 5.7%, now carries the Environmental Protection Agency SmartWay program verification as an advanced trailer skirt.

With the EPA SmartWay verification, the Aero Saber becomes a single source solution for truckers needing to comply with stringent California Air Resources Board (CARB) legislation that took effect January 1, 2010 requiring 53-foot trailers operating in the state to have aerodynamic devices installed onto their trailers to obtain a 5% or greater verified fuel savings. All model year trailers are required to be compliant by the end of 2012.

"Silver Eagle Aero Saber skirts are a smart solution for truck owners who want to save on fuel costs," said Matt Goldfain, marketing director for Silver Eagle Manufacturing. "The Aero Saber offers 5.7% fuel savings, equating to at least $2,700 a year in fuel savings and a quick return on investment. Over the life of a trailer, the owner could see as much as $40,500 savings on fuel costs by using the Aero Saber."

The Silver Eagle Aero Saber skirt also offers the highest ground clearance of any aerodynamic skirt on the road - 18 inches - and a limited lifetime warranty, to assure low maintenance costs over the life of the trailer. The Aero Saber is also a truly "green" product that is constructed of 90% recycled aluminum and rubber. The entire system is 100% recyclable at the end of its usable life.

"Silver Eagle is thrilled to offer the trucking community a way to save money while doing something good for the environment," Goldfain added. The SmartWay initiative aims to reduce as much as 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions per year, as well as a targeted fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of oil annually by 2012.
