Signals United on the Power of Networking Expertise

As an interactive marketing firm, the Signals United team is continually refining their networking skills in order to make powerful and lasting connections. They recently returned from an event in which these skills proved valuable.

“Several team members recently returned from the national quarterly conference,” noted Stanley, Signals United’s director of operations. “One of the first comments they shared was how appreciative they were of the time and effort we’ve spent discussing networking techniques. As a result of their skill mastery, they were able to make new connections. These contacts will be crucial to them as they advance in their careers.”

Stanley explained that at Signals United, significant time is spent discussing proper networking approaches. “One of the biggest mistakes that people make is to assume they have to connect with everyone in the room,” he noted. “That’s not what networking is about. You’re not there to pass out your business cards or collect them from others. A successful networking event is one in which you meet and develop connections with two or three other people. These should be individuals with whom you can share opportunities and mutually benefit from the relationship. These are people who will remember you, and you will remember them. Business cards get tossed out usually within the week. Your objective is to gain quality relationships.”

Stanley, Director of Operations

According to Stanley, the biggest skill he and the other managers impart is listening. “Focus on asking questions and learning about the other person,” he said. “Find common ground. You’ll be surprised how much knowledge and critical information you can pick up when you actively listen to what someone else is saying.”

Signals United Managers Discuss Overall Team Training Approach

Stanley conveyed that practicing networking skills was part of Signals United’s overall training approach. “Learning is ongoing,” he said. “From the moment a new team member joins our firm, he or she is immersed in continual training.”

“New associates are guided through the entire marketing process, from research to campaign execution,” Stanley explained. “Once they’ve mastered those skills, they’ll continue to engage in team-based training that covers networking skills, presentation techniques, and other areas ripe for enhancement.”

“Our philosophy for success is about continually seeking the next level,” Stanley concluded. “We are constantly challenging ourselves and each other to reach higher. This is what sustains businesses, and it’s why I am confident that Signals United will continue to grow.”
