Wrapping up a productive 2015, PROCIVICOS, the Civil Protection Volunteers of Scientology Community non-profit organization, is setting goals for the coming year.

Completing their 11th consecutive year-round collaboration with the City of Turin’s Municipal Section, where they operate within the Secretariat for Voluntary Service, 2016 will also mark their eighth year of participating in civil protection training camps.

"In addition to the commitment we share with many other associations and institutions, including our collaboration with the Turin Food Bank, this year PROCIVICOS volunteers will take steps to promote commonsense, moral values, essential to preventing environmental disasters, social unrest and other incidents."

Giuseppe Cicogna, PROCIVICOS coordinator

These camps consist of training and exercises to improve preparation and coordination with other associations and organizations with which PROCIVICOS operates in the civil protection network.

Open to people of all faiths, those interested in participating in these programs should visit the PROCIVICOS website at www.procivicos.it or call 011 85 30 12.

“In addition to the commitment we share with many other associations and institutions, including our collaboration with the Turin Food Bank, this year PROCIVICOS volunteers will take steps to promote commonsense, moral values, essential to preventing environmental disasters, social unrest and other incidents,” said PROCIVICOS coordinator Giuseppe Cicogna.

For this reason, in 2016 the volunteers will launch a new outreach activity using a nonreligious commonsense guide by L. Ron Hubbard called The Way to Happiness.

Beginning in January, the booklet will be distributed free of charge in various areas of Turin, including Parella, Borgo Vittoria, and Via Cernaia in Santa Rita.

“Some of our volunteers are also deployed outside Turin in Asti, Cuneo, Chivasso and Valle d'Aosta, so they will carry out the booklet distribution in these areas as well,” said Cicogna.

Since the 1980s the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of Turin have been very active in many humanitarian fields. Some of these volunteers wanted to help those affected by disasters and provide disaster preparedness programs to promote a culture of prevention thereby limiting the harm of disasters and accidents.

This kind of volunteering falls within the purview of Civil Protection so the volunteers formed PROCIVICOS and have operated under that association since 2002.

Taking their cue from the experience of Turin, over the years, Volunteer Ministers in Milan, Verona, Gallura and Emilia Romagna organized PROCIVICOS chapters for their cities. Others are in the process of forming up.

Created by L. Ron Hubbard in the mid-1970, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program is a broad initiative bringing effective physical and spiritual assistance to anyone, anywhere. Expressly intended for use by Scientologists and non-Scientologists alike, anyone of any culture or creed may train as a Volunteer Minister and use these tools to help their families and communities. And all are welcome to do so. Training is free and is provided through the Volunteer Ministers website.
