"Scare Poverty Away" Campaign: Hyatt Regency Chicago Halloween Pumpkins Shine to Help Ease Poverty A

(CHICAGO, ILL) - At Hyatt Regency Chicago's "Scare Poverty Away" event, Halloween revelers can enjoy a pumpkin-carving contest, special Halloween cocktail-all while giving back to people living in terrifying circumstances around the world.

Hyatt Regency Chicago is teaming with the nonprofit Dining for Women, to raise awareness and support for women and girls' causes in the developing world, beginning with an Oct. 28 pumpkin-carving contest.

The public can watch the pumpkins being carved by area artists and hotel chefs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday in Hyatt Regency Chicago's East Tower lobby at 151 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60601. They then can vote for their favorite pumpkin in the lobby or on Hyatt Regency Chicago's Facebook page.

After the pumpkin carving and throughout the weekend, Hyatt Regency Chicago will feature a special "Scare Poverty Away" cocktail in BIG Bar with all drink proceeds going to Dining for Women. DFW has helped hundreds of thousands of women and girls get safe havens, jobs, schooling, AIDS medicines, safe water, and other support across the developing world for nine years.

Dining for Women is a 220-chapter giving circle whose 6,000 members meet monthly to dine together, learn about a specific developing world cause, illiteracy to sex trafficking, and then donate what they would have spent dining out to that cause. Visit www.diningforwomen.org for more information.

Dining for Women and founder Marsha Wallace were featured in the book, The Give-Back Solution: Create a Better World with Your Talents, Time and Travel, published by Sourcebooks, based in Naperville. Author Susan Skog also is a Dining for Women chapter leader from Fort Collins, Co.

Skog and Hyatt Regency Chicago's Social Media Marketing Manager Jennifer Kedinger, who met on a volunteer vacation in Thailand in 2008, decided to use Halloween to help women and girls living with the most harrowing challenges. "We both love Halloween. And we both love helping other people. Using pumpkins to shine a light on people, who are too invisible around the world, seemed a great way to do it," say Kedinger and Skog.
