Save Our Cemeteries Seeks Volunteers for Valence Cemetery Clean-Up
New Orleans, LA, April 18, 2016 (Newswire.com) - On the heels of its recent clean-up project at Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, Save Our Cemeteries today announced that it will be supervising a community clean-up of Valence Cemetery on May 3, 2016 from 9 am - 12 pm. Save Our Cemeteries is looking for dedicated volunteers from the community, with the goal of making significant strides in clipping ferns and invasive vegetation, and removing trash from the historic uptown cemetery.
“In our follow-up to our “Open Tombs” project conducted at Valence Cemetery last year we are looking forward to concluding our previous work by performing a general clean-up of the cemetery on May 3rd” states Amanda Walker, Executive Director at Save Our Cemeteries. Ms. Walker continues, “We are asking the general public for dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers to help us in our efforts to preserve this historic cemetery.”

Valence Cemetery, located at 2000 Valence Street, between S. Saratoga and Danneel Streets in uptown New Orleans, was established in 1867. Once known as City Cemetery before the town of Jefferson City was annexed into New Orleans in 1870, the name was later changed to Valence Cemetery.
