Save Our Cemeteries Announces Second Lecture of 2016

"Beautiful, Historic and Unique Metairie Cemetery" A Lecture By Jerry Schoen

Save Our Cemeteries announced today that it will hold the second lecture of its 2016 series on Wednesday, April 20 beginning at 6:30 pm located in Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA. The lecture will be conducted by Lake Lawn Metairie’s Community Outreach Director, Jerry Schoen. Schoen’s presentation, entitled "Beautiful, Historic and Unique Metairie Cemetery," will spotlight New Orleans’ Metairie Cemetery, both its past and present. In 2003, Metairie Cemetery was named by Forbes.com as one of the ten best cemeteries due to its unique historical significance and beauty. Metairie Cemetery was entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

About Lecturer Jerry Schoen

Gerard L. “Jerry” Schoen III is a fifth generation funeral director who began his career at the age 12 at the New Orleans funeral home his family established in 1874. In 1979, Jerry began his career at the newly completed funeral home, Lake Lawn Metairie. Since then, he has worked in virtually every position at the funeral home and has been a licensed director there for 37 years. He currently represents Lake Lawn Metairie as Community Outreach Director. Jerry has served as President of the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association, is a current member of the National Funeral Directors Association and holds a Board position with Save Our Cemeteries, Fireman’s Charitable and Benevolent Association, and the Funeral Service Foundation Endowment Board.
