SAS DFW Focuses on Setting Goals, Prepares for Conference

SAS DFW's director of operations elaborated on the importance of setting clear goals. He also discussed an upcoming conference and shared his best advice for networking during industry events.

“There’s just no future in not having goals,” declared Jon, the director of operations at SAS DFW. “Any company leader who isn’t setting clear and actionable goals, whether for the short term or many years in the future, is asking for trouble. Even if your company has achieved success and things look good overall, sticking with the status quo for too long is a recipe for disaster.”

Business leaders currently have ambitious goals in place for team growth, revenues, and customer satisfaction. Along with those lofty objectives, Jon also has his sights set on future expansion into major new markets. As he put it, “I want our team members to challenge themselves to reach their personal and professional goals. With that in mind, myself and the rest of the leadership team have put some high benchmarks in place for the future of our company. We want to lead by example and show our associates that they must continue to aim high.”

"Our associates work hard for the privilege of attending conferences and retreats of all types,"

Jon, Director of Operations

Team members at SAS DFW have an array of travel opportunities. Many of them act as incentives to achieve their goals, including the upcoming national leadership conference in Dallas, Texas. “Our associates work hard for the privilege of attending conferences and retreats of all types,” added the director. “I know the conference coming up in Dallas is going to be one to remember.”

SAS DFW’s Director of Operations Offers Tips for Networking at Industry Conferences

To help his team members make the most of the networking possibilities at industry events, Jon reminds them of a few important strategies. He explained, “It can be intimidating to walk into a crowded event hall and try to connect with strangers. I want to be sure that SAS DFW makes a positive impression at these events, and I have a few simple tactics to help our team do so.”

Jon begins by stressing the importance of preparation. “You really have to do your homework before one of these events gets underway,” he added. “Otherwise, you might get lost in the shuffle of speeches and educational sessions. I encourage each member of our team to study which companies will be in attendance and who will be representing them. If you have a few targets in mind, you’re much more likely to come away from an industry conference with some helpful new contacts.”

Another tip the director emphasized pertains to the importance of not saying too much. As he put it, “It’s always better to listen more than you talk when meeting someone for the first time. To help ensure that, I tell our associates to ask open-ended questions. People love to talk about themselves, and they’ll feel a real connection with you if you’re the one to ask them about their companies and unique products.”
