Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom Combines Smartphone and Samsung Digital Camera Features
Online, September 2, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Samsung Galaxy Camera was a hybrid, of sorts, that combined the app features of a smartphone with the features of a Samsung digital camera. It was considered primarily a camera and in the Galaxy S4 Zoom, Samsung has made the move to right the balance with a device that combines the features of both devices but is more smartphone than camera. It has a 1.5GHz dual core processor, a 4.3" AMOLED screen, and a 16mp sensor so that while it may not be the best of both worlds it is widely considered to be the best combination of both worlds.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom isn't the highest specification smartphone on the market or even in the Samsung stable but it certainly isn't the worst. The 1.5GHz dual core processor combined with 1.5GB of RAM is certainly sufficient to handle the majority of tasks that users will ever throw at the hybrid device while the 4.3" screen has a resolution of 540 x 960 so it isn't the greatest but it won't show users up either.
Turning the Galaxy S4 Zoom on will not yield any real surprises. It performs exactly like a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. It has Samsung's TouchWhix overlay on top of the Android installation and it also has some features like Split Screen apps that will win the device plaudits from many corners. The touch screen is very responsive, which is not only useful when using the handset to make calls and play games, but also when it is being put to use as a Samsung digital camera.
It has a 16mp sensor that is big and helps produce some very good looking photo results. It also has a front facing camera although this will only really be used for video calling and taking self portraits so the quality and resolution of this is not as important. Samsung has also provided a hand grip on the right side so that it feels more like a camera. This will help reduce the hand shake that is common when attempting to take decent quality photos using just a smartphone.
Arguably the biggest problem with the Zoom is one that should be expected. Pretty much everything needs to be controlled by the touch screen. Those making the move from a smartphone to the Zoom will not struggle with this but budding photographers that are maybe moving to the more convenient alternative to a full blown camera may find it takes a while to get used to.
The Samsung Galaxy Zoom is a combination of Galaxy smartphone and Samsung digital camera. It is not the best of either world, in reality, but it is a very good combination and is ideal for smartphone users that want to take better quality pictures especially. The use of Android ensures that the device is easy to pick up and use while the 16mp sensor ensures that picture quality is surprisingly good and that there is a good range of features and settings to further enhance the user experience.
