Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Highlights Its Critical Connections Solutions For Ethanol-Enriched Fuel Applications At The 2010 GIE+EXPO

Online, December 2, 2010 (Newswire.com) - AKRON, OHIO - Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics (SGPPL) discussed its critical connections solutions for fuel applications at the 2010 GIE+EXPO, October 28-30 in Louisville, Kentucky. These solutions are designed to meet the upcoming Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, and maintain the integrity of operations within ethanol-enriched fuel applications. This in turn enhances operational safety and reduces total systems costs.

SGPPL's critical connections solutions for fuel applications incorporate a new range of low-permeation Tygon® tubing that ensures optimum performance when used with the ethanol and nitrogen-enriched fuel blends. The EPA has granted a waiver allowing the E15 fuel blend (15% ethanol, 85% gasoline) to be introduced into the market and available at local gas stations.

The EPA has not announced a clear timeline for the commercialization of E15 fuel, however the industry is concerned about the implications of regulations trending towards high ethanol blend fuels. E15 fuel, although environmentally-friendly, can degrade fuel lines because of the higher ethanol content, resulting in higher permeation rates and an increased risk of fuel leaks. The new SGPPL tubing, however, features a multi-layer design with an inner layer that is 100% compatible with ethanol.

Equipment manufacturers are able to avoid both down-time in operations and costly repairs by choosing from a range of products that SGPPL has developed before the EPA regulations have even gone into effect. The low-permeation Tygon® tubing also conforms to new standards issued by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
