Roof Top Cafe Chef Brendan Orr Receives Top Honors
Roof Top Cafe Chef Brendan Orr takes home the prize for best entree in the Master Chefs Classic 2014, Key West. The event benefits the MARC House foundation for adult developmentally disabled residents of the Keys.
Online, February 25, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Hosted by the Westin Key West Resort and Marina Pier, the 20th Annual Master Chefs Classic: 2014 was held this past weekend in Key West, Florida. With lucky attendees numbering 450 and Master Chefs representing sixteen of the finest Key West restaurants, the event benefiting the Monroe Association for ReMARCable Citizens, or M.A.R.C., was a great success.
Held on January 26, 2014, the annual culinary competition and tasting included three categories of incredible cuisine created by the 16 competing chefs representing a wide variety of culinary styles and flavors. The dishes were then served to the fortunate attendees and judges, followed by awarding the prizes for best appetizer, entree, dessert and of course a Chef favorite, the People's choice award.
The culinary event of the season, each Key West restaurant represented received honorable mention for participation in the charitable event while first, second and third prizes were awarded to the winning dishes in each category. The People's Choice Award is also given in each of the culinary categories.
Key West restaurant, Roof Top Cafe Executive Chef Brendan Orr topped the awards, placing within the top three positions in two of the three categories. His unique New Island Cuisine resulted in a first place award in the Entree category with Seared Sea Scallops, a delicious combination of Island flavors blended with Asian and Mediterranean spices. Tying for third in the Appetizer category, Orr expressed his culinary style and training by creating his own Duck Tostadas.
"This competition is all about the MARC House, really," a grinning Orr commented. "We all (the Chefs) have a great time trying to out-do each other but when it comes down to it, we're here to help."
The MARC House holds a variety of benefits throughout the year to raise funds to support the numerous services provided to adult developmentally disabled citizens of the Keys.
