Rokitnyanskiy Sugar Mill Will Construct 20 MW Biogas Plan

Rokitnyanskiy sugar mill JSC and Zorg Biogas AG (Switzerland) signed contract for biogas plant design. Biogas plant will convert sugar plant wastes into biogas and electricity. Biogas complex total electric power is 20 MW.

Biogas plant is going to be biggest not only in CIS countries but in a whole Eastern Europe. Besides that it will be the biggest sugar waste-to-energy plant in the world.

800 tons of pressed sugar beet pulp and 800 tons of corn silage will be used as feed stock for the biogas plant within the sugar campaign. During the marketing year biogas plant will use 1200 tons of corn silage per day. 20 MW of electric power will be sold to the national grid at "green tariff". Beside the electricity biogas plant will save on chemical fertilizer.

Project is supported by Kiev region governor Mr. Anatoliy Prisyazhnyuk. Biogas energy park will improve region ecology and have significant social impact in the form of new jobs, local budget incomes and science development.

80 million Euro will be own investment and EBRD loan. According to schedule in 2011 technical documentation is going to be developed and all necessary permits to be obtained. Construction and plant start up scheduled for 2012.

Zorg Biogas AG announced about new orders from Greece, Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine. Total electric power of new orders without Rokitnyanskiy sugar mill JSC makes about 5MW.

Rokitnyanskiy sugar mill JSC is a member of "Selkhosproduct" group of companies. Sugar beet processing capacity is 3000 tons per day.
