Rodney Lough Jr. Granted Award Of Recognition for Excellence in Photography from La Universidad Americana
Online, October 17, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Rodney Lough Jr. was granted an Award of Recognition for Excellence in Photography from one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in Central America, La Universidad Americana of Nicaragua, in January of 2012. This award is given only to the world's finest photographers, and is a great honor. No contemporaries of Rodney Lough Jr. have received this award.
The Universidad Americana was founded by a group of vastly experienced university professors seeking to contribute to the development of higher education in Nicaragua. They have graduates working in a wide variety of professions all over the world. They offer bachelors, masters and graduate degrees, and teach classes in both Spanish and English.
Rodney Lough Jr. received the award during his first journey to Nicaragua, where he also photographed some of that country's most beautiful wild locations. Photographs from that trip include "Masaya's Messiah," which won an International Pano Award, and "Vortex," a stunning image of unique swirl in a river reflecting the sky above. Other images taken on the trip include "Riverscape", "Jorge's Montecristo," "Canyon Somoto." Several of these can be seen in Stand Here, Wilderness Collections Volume III, which is due to be released later this year.
During the trip to Nicaragua, Rodney journeyed from the jungle to the mountain to the coast. He also jumped off a 40 foot cliff into the waters of the Somoto Canyon, waded through it, and came up covered in leeches that he had to spend a long time plucking off. It was quite an adventure, and this award is quite an honor.
