Road Rules Introduces an App to Tackle the Distracted Driving Problem

Automated tasks while driving so that drivers can focus on the road

Road Rules Inc today announced the public beta release of its Android app, Road Rules, in the Google Play Store. The app automatically detects driving and replies to texts, offering information about location and driving status to contacts or friends and family. Currently, the two major features are (1) an interactive auto-reply to incoming text messages and (2) temporarily sharing location by sending a pre-drive text with #location. By using an “invisible user experience”, the app works with any existing texting app on Android devices. Setup is simple: users turn on the rules and select which friends with whom to share information. Road Rules takes care of the rest automatically. Drivers never even need to take the phone out of their pockets.

This app release is just in time for the National Safety Council’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month. NHTSA research has found that at any given daylight moment, 660,000 drivers are interacting with their cell phones. This epidemic causes nine deaths daily in the United States alone.

This release is the first step towards keeping people safer on the road by enhancing phone features instead of taking them away.

Liz Slocum Jensen, CEO

“Getting loved ones to stop texting while driving is a frustrating conversation with tragic consequences. People do not want to give up their phones, even on the road. We work with this behavior instead of against it,” said Liz Slocum Jensen, CEO, Road Rules Inc. “This release is the first step towards keeping people safer on the road by enhancing phone features instead of taking them away.  In future releases, we plan to use machine learning and natural language processing to add more context to driving. We want to help you handle your incoming and outgoing messages.”
