For 33 years running, Rincon Puerto Rico has hosted the Tríalo Rincoeño - the oldest triathlon in all of Puerto Rico and the best-known in the Caribbean - during the first weeks of June, bringing together more than 500 athletes from all over the world to compete in Rincon's warm waters and balmy weather. This year, the much-anticipated triathlon will be held Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Balneario public beach in Rincon, and will feature some of the best local and international athletes competing against one another to swim, bike and run their way to the top. International athletic events like the annual Rincon Beach Boy stand-up paddleboard (SUP) race and the Tríalo Rincoeño help bring global attention to Rincon PR, while also supporting an active and healthy lifestyle for Rincon locals and those visiting the quaint surf town. The 2013 Rincon Puerto Rico triathlon begins at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, but the weekend's activities will officially begin with a brand-new kids' triathlon for children ages 3-12 on Saturday, June 8, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Rincon PR triathlon includes two main sections: an Olympic event (1500 meter swim, 40 kilometer bike and 10 kilometer run), and a Sprint event (750 meter swim, 20 kilometer bike and 5 kilometer run).

The infamous Tríalo Rincoeño was first introduced more than 30 years ago as an athletic activity founded by the Rincon Community Youth Center, and was so popular that it was repeated the following year as part of the Santa Rosa Festival activities. Following its second year, the Rincon triathlon continued to grow both in size and popularity, and has since become an annual event highly anticipated by the global and local triathlete community. In fact, Rincon was the official venue for the triathlon event during the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games, and the Tríalo Rincoeño was also the official event for the qualification of athletes competing in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.

The mission of the Rincon triathlon is "to motivate and inspire young people through sports to lead an active, positive and healthy lifestyle," and every year, a crowd flocks to Rincon Puerto Rico during the second week in June to watch the world-class event. With beautiful weather year-round and a tropical paradise as a backdrop, Rincon is the perfect venue for marathons, triathlons, music festivals, surf competitions and many other exciting events and activities in Puerto Rico.
