Renewable Energy Leaders From Middle East and North Africa Meet to Drive Industry Forwards

Award-winning annual renewable energy conference from New Energy Update to host dedicated CSP, PV, wind, and energy storage meeting

From the power-hungry markets of North Africa, to the oil-dependent nations of the Arabian Gulf, governments in the region have stepped up their energy transformation plans with large-scale auctioning and net-metering schemes.

Egypt is aiming for 2,650 MW of PV capacity by 2020; Morocco will have about 500 MW of CSP and 600 MW of PV by 2019, and Jordan is set to award 200 MW (4x50 MW) during 2017. In the Gulf region, Dubai aims to have 3,000 MW of solar capacity by 2030, while Saudi Arabia is moving towards it renewable energy target of 9,500 MW by 2023.

Leading developers such as ACWA Power, Abengoa, Kuwait Oil Company, Masdar, Engie, and EDF will also provide updates on their projects and share lessons from operating solar and wind plants.

Being a nascent market with limited experience, the region’s solar and wind programs are expected to involve international developers, contractors and technology providers.

However, doing business in MENA countries is highly dependent on successful partnerships, which is crucial to bringing costs down and securing project tenders.

The award-winning MENA New Energy 2017 conference in Dubai, April 25-26, will offer the supply chain exceptional opportunities to capitalise on the region’s renewable energy boom and meet with local policy makers, developers, EPCs, tech suppliers, and lenders.

These include officials from the Abu Dhabi Electricity and Water Authority, the owner of the 350 MW Sweihan PV project; Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects, the entity behind the Abdaliyah ISCC plant, and Dubai Supreme Council, the entity overseeing the 3 GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park; and the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy [MASEN], in charge of NOOR’s CSP and PV operations.

Leading developers such as ACWA Power, Abengoa, Kuwait Oil Company, Masdar, Engie, and EDF will also provide updates on their projects and share lessons from operating solar and wind plants.

At the same time, renewable energy financiers including the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, International Finance Corporation, Swicorp, Natixis, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation will present case studies on how multilateral banks and private investors commit to profitable projects.

With four tracks focusing on PV, CSP, wind, and energy storage, the conference will push the boundaries on innovation and cost-effectiveness in all four segments.

From project finance and feed-in-tariffs to power purchase agreement frameworks, MENA New Energy 2017 will enable both newcomers and existing players to bid, win and develop successful projects in the region.

Paul Soskin, Project Director, said “Now in its 9th year, the conference and exhibition is considered the meeting point for senior level executives involved in renewable energy projects in the MENA region. With every section of the supply chain involved from government officials through to developers, suppliers and financiers those attending can be absolutely sure that the relationships formed here will supercharge their projects for the next year. We’d urge people to reserve their places now so as not to miss out.”
