"Re:Vision: See and Shift" Artist Hosts Silent Auction to Change the Lives of Children
Online, May 29, 2012 (Newswire.com) - FORT LAUDERDALE - South Florida's premiere arts collective noted for its thoughtful and bold creations, will host a silent auction and tasting party to change the lives of abused and neglected children. "Re:Vision" is 1310 Gallery's event and silent auction for Voices for Children of Broward County. Using 3 floors of gallery space in the Historic Sailboat Bend community, Nerissa Street brings together sculptors, 2D artists, fashion and top-level musicians, who use their art to give a voice to children who can't speak for themselves.
Re:Vision-See and Shift- uses the artists' vision to change your perspective.
"That's one of the reasons this gathering of creative professionals is so special," Street says. "Every one of them has worked thoughtfully in their craft, bringing a strength and humility that makes an impact past the visual impression or performance." The list of artists includes: Donna Haynes, installation/3D artist; Virginia Fifield, an acclaimed fine charcoal artist; Jacklyn Laflamme, public artist and sculptor; Loni Johnson, the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts' YoungArts visual arts discipline coordinator; Michelle Oravitz, "mystical artist"; and Asanyah Davidson, CEO of Circa24 Fashion.
This night's celebration includes a silent auction and a "tasting party", along with the musical stylings of rock jazz guitar group Jahzul.
Then, there's the cause. Re:Vision raises awareness about Voices for Children of Broward County, a non-profit that provides financial assistance for the Guardian ad Litem program. Guardians advocate for the best interests of children removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. They give children the support, encouragement, resources and assistance they need during this difficult time. Voices' goal is to ensure every Broward County child in the dependency system has the support of a volunteer Guardian ad Litem.
"It's the job of the cultural artist to transform the way you see the common things," Street says. "Innovation is how we thrive-and how we make bad things better." Add to that the fact that the event "makes things better" for abused and neglected children in Broward County, and you've got a reason to get up and go.
