Online, March 7, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Gulfport, MS-Construction will soon begin on Gulf Island Water Park's newest attraction, a six-lane racer slide, which will be ready for action later this summer.

The ride, which will acquire a moniker through a soon-to-be-announced "Name the Slide" contest, is manufactured by Whitewater West, a company which is recognized as one of the largest and most experienced builders of water park attractions in the world. Standing at 4 ½ stories, it features six sliding lanes in which guests can "race" each other at speeds up to 25 feet per second.
The racer slide is the main feature of Gulf Islands' $800,000 worth of upgrades to the park for the 2011 season and guests will notice improvements as soon as they walk in the gate. Four new private cabanas are now available for daily rental, as well as a new pavilion area for large groups to enjoy their outings. The park has also focused on tempting the taste buds of park-goers, with new equipment, as well as new menu offerings in their restaurants. Even the landscaping is receiving some attention.
Full-Day Admission for 2011 is $28.99 ($19.99 for those under 42" tall). The 2011 Season Pass offers unlimited admission with no blackout dates for just $49.99 per person.
