R.D. Olson Construction Begins Building Hollywood Signature Nightclub

California's Premiere hotel and resort builder begins work on Hollywood's the $4.2-million-Drai nightclub.

IRVINE, Calif.-Oct. 6, 2009--R. D. Olson Construction, California's premiere hotel and resort builder, announced this week that construction is underway in Hollywood on a $4.2 million project to create a signature nightclub venue for well-known Las Vegas club impresario Victor Drai. The nightclub will be located at the iconic intersection of Hollywood & Vine.

The new 25,944-square-foot Drai's Hollywood, patterned on the success of Drai's After Hours, Tryst and XS clubs on the Las Vegas Strip, is expected to open in early 2010, according to R.D. Olson Construction CEO/President Robert Olson.

Drai's Hollywood, which is joint venture between Drai and Gatehouse Capital, is designed as a luxury, multi-level club within the new W Hollywood Hotel & Residences. The W hotel currently is under construction but is scheduled for grand opening in December.

Lee & Sakahara of Irvine, California is the architectural designer. designstudio ltd of Portland, Oregon is the interior designer.

Drai's Hollywood will include an intimate 2,331-square-foot VIP lounge on ground level with a private VIP entrance separate from the hotel's public lobby entry; a 21,552-square-foot penthouse glassed-in bar on the 11th floor with a 1,000-square-foot open air balcony; and an adjacent 2,131-square-foot rooftop pool deck and bar. The total capacity of Drai's Hollywood will be 792 occupants.

To create sufficient soundproofing to please 10th floor residents, the 11th floor sits atop an unusual insulated adjustable concrete slab.

The rooftop bar will offer extensive 360-degree views through floor-to-ceiling windows, including an unobstructed view that can also be observed from the north-facing balcony of the landmark Hollywood sign in the Hollywood Hills.

The project involves the complete build-out of the bar interiors, extensive custom construction work and the application of various high-end finishes. Among the unique finishes are $76,000 custom leather upholstered doors on bathroom stalls. Olson said the interior design is modern, achieved through dark wood and tile floors, multi-color glass tile in the restrooms, and more than $1 million-worth of color-changing LED and neon lighting.

"The lighting is what makes the magic happen," Olson said.

The pool bar includes a raised wood deck, elaborate tile work, cabanas and a 758-square-foot pool.

R. D. Olson Construction, headquartered in Irvine, California, opened for business in 1979, guided by Olson's simple philosophy: "If you provide the highest-quality, on-time construction services at fair price and competitive prices, you will create loyal customers who will come back again and again." Over three decades, that philosophy proved prescient as the construction company constructed a wide variety of projects across the United States, including hotels, country clubs, restaurants, and retail, multi-family, mid-rise office and recreational facilities. In fact, R.D. Olson Construction has grown into one of the top 50 general contracting firms in California, building such establishments as Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Resort; and four Marriott Residence Inns in Long Beach, Burbank, Oceanside and Irvine. Renovations include the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, Los Angeles, and The Spa in the Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey. Its most recent completions include renovation of the 19-story Hotel Palomar, Westwood; the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills; and the building of the 174-room Renaissance ClubSport, Aliso Viejo.
