Quebec Sugar House Live on the Internet

Webcams have been installed inside a Quebec sugar house to broadcast the conversion of maple sap live throughout the entire 2011 sugaring season.

(Quebec, Canada) For those of you who aren't able to visit Quebec during the springtime maple syrup production season, www.maplesyrup.tv offers you an opportunity to follow the whole process live from inside a sugar house via four cameras.

Son of a maple syrup maker himself, site creator Frederic Pelletier tells us how his project saw the light of day:

"As Quebecois, we are fortunate enough to be able to participate every year in the maple syrup production process; however, not everyone can go to a sugar house and watch the maple sap evaporation process in person. Thanks to our live broadcast system, you will be able to follow the day-to-day syrup production process throughout the spring, from wherever you may be on the planet."

The maple shack selected for this seasonal spectacle is the Bois-Joli, situated in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli in the Chaudière-Appalaches region. This maple forest covers a surface area of 10 hectares and has a total of 2,000 taps spread with an average annual maple syrup production of 1,200 litres ( 320 us gallons )

The live website broadcast will officially begin Tuesday, March 15th. In this region, the 2011 sugaring season should kick off around March 10th, but as she does every year, Mother Nature alone determines the first day of production. For all those watching this live web feed, be aware that maple sap harvesting takes place during the day and the evaporation process starts in the late afternoon, in keeping with the volume of maple sap harvested. Please also keep the time zone differential in mind if you are
connecting from outside Quebec.

We have configured our system to offer you quality video and hope that many of you will watch the 2011 sugaring season unfold live.
