Pune Spruces Up For 24th Festival Amidst Music, Dance, Drama And Sports

The 24th Pune Festival will turn out to be the landmark and providing the essential base for art, culture and tourism to happen and prosper. The festival will also encourage tourism although from different perspective.  

With all the preparations done, Pune is all set and geared up to be host of 24th Pune Festival commencing on September 21st at Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch, from 4.30 pm onwards. with arrangements for 24th Pune Festival completed, tourists will have an enthralling moments to witness and unwind themselves completely. Popular as Pune Festival, the 24th Pune Festival is tribute to late Yashwantrao Chavan, the architect of modern Maharashtra, and marks his birth centenary year.

Pune Festival will be laid open to general public on Sept 21 by Public Works Department (PWD) and state minister for tourism Chhagan Bhujbal and chairman, MTDC, Jagdish Patil. The deputy leader of the BJP in the Loksabha, Gopinath Munde, will however be presiding over the function.

On the occasion of inaugural function, noted filmmaker Subhash Ghai, and actors Randhir Kapoor, Shekhar Suman, Rajiv Kapoor, Hema Malini and Parineeti Chopra, will make their presence felt. Other prominent dignitaries at the inaugural ceremony will include minister for forests Patangrao Kadam, minister for revenue Balasaheb Thorat, minister for cooperation Harshavardhan Patil, and minister for EGS Nitin Raut.

The 24th Pune Festival is arranged and organized by MTDC, the department of tourism and the Pune Festival committee. The prominent venues of festival will include Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch, Balgandharva Rangmandir, Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagraha and Art Gallery, Pune Golf Club course, Mahesh Vidyalaya, Kothrud and General Vaidya Stadium, and many more.

The silver medalist at London Olympics 2012, Sh. Vijay Kumar and actor Tejaswani Lonari will install the Pune Festival Ganpati idol will be held at 10.30 am on September 19 at Hotel Saras, Nehru Stadium. At the inaugural ceremony, the popular highlights would include screening of film Ganesh Sthapana and 'aarti', on Late Yeshwantrao Chavan on the occasion of his birth centenary year; presentation of a 97-year-old original voice clipping of Lokmanya Tilak, 'Ganesh Vandana' by Hema Malini and her daughters, Esha and Ahana and 'Jai Ganesh' - a dance conceptualized by Dhananjay Bahulekar and choreographed by Santosh Sankhad.

'Bihu Dance' will be presented by the students from North East who are currently studying in Pune. There will also be felicitation of Ganesh Seva Mandal in Raviwar Peth for completion of 100 years, followed by grand finale of 'lavani and mujra fusion', which has been choreographed by Nikita Moghe and presented by Varsha Usgaonkar, Urmila Kanetkar, Bhargavi Chirmule and Tejaswini Lonari.
On September 25 special programme titled 'Tribute to Legends' will take place in the memory of great artists Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Joy Mukherji, and ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh.

The coordinators said,"24th Pune Festival will have many other events like Hindi Hasya Kavi Sammelan, 'Hasyotsav Ekpatricha', The Pune Festival Golf Cup, Inter State Ice Skating Championship, and Vintage Car Rally respectively."
