Harahan, June 8, 2015 (Newswire.com) - New York, NY, June 8. 2015 - Maggie Flanigan Studio, New York's top Meisner training program, is excited to welcome 2015 Pulitzer Prize Winning Playwright, Stephen Adly Guirgis, on June 8, 2015. Guirgis, is the recipient of numerous awards, most notably the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, for his play Between Riverside and Crazy. In 2014, he was awarded the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award, in 2013 the Windham-Campbell Literature Prize, and in 2011 his play The Motherf**ker with the Hat, was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. Guirgis, who is also a Meisner actor, will discuss his training and professional experience with the Maggie Flanigan Studio students. Originally from New York City's Upper West Side, Guirgis' plays most often take place in or around his hometown. Born to an Egyptian father and Irish American mother, his plays tend to reflect the beauty that is New York City's racial and ethnic diversity. Guirgis is an award winning American playwright, screenwriter, actor and director. He is also a member and former co-artistic director of LAByrinth Theater Company. Stephen Adly Guirgis has established himself as an illuminator of the urban experience. About Maggie Flanigan Studio Located in New York City, Maggie Flanigan Studio, founded in 2001, is the top Meisner-based acting program in the United States. MFS students study the Meisner technique with Executive Director & Senior Acting Teacher, Charlie Sandlan. Following the Professional Actor Training Program, alumni have the opportunity to take Master Class, these students work with Artistic Director & Master Teacher, Maggie Flanigan. In addition to the Meisner technique, this summer the Maggie Flanigan Studio has added Fundamentals of Playwriting to its curriculum, to provide support for serious students interested in all aspects of the theater arts.
