PSD To HTML Conversion - Publisher Fines Distributor For Sharing Copies On BitTorrent

World's renowned publisher, John Wiley & Sons has charged 7000 US dollars from a person in New York for illegal distribution of "WordPress All-in-One For Dummies" on BitTorrent.

According to a recent report, a Federal court of New York has pronounced a judgment in favor of one of the world's famous publishers, John Wiley & Sons. It is said that the publisher has filed a case against a Poughkeepsie distributor, Robert Carpenter, who illegally shared a copy of the book, "WordPress All-in-One for Dummies" on BitTorrent by infringing its copyright and trademark. However, the court has ordered Carpenter to pay a fine of 7000 US dollars to the publisher for the damages he has done to the publisher by sharing the copy publicly on the file sharing protocol.

The book which gives an insight into the functioning of the open source CMS has also benefitted the web developers across the world to carry out PSD to HTML and PSD to WordPress conversions with ease.

The report states that Carpenter was one amongst those 27 people against whom John Wiley & Sons had filed a lawsuit in the month of October last year, for illegally sharing the copies of the book "WordPress All-in-One for Dummies", authored by Lisa Sabin Wilson on BitTorrent. It also states that since then, the publisher has filed more than 12 lawsuits accusing hundred of anonymous people, who have allegedly shared digital copies of other books like, "Hacking for Dummies," "Day Trading for Dummies" and "Cooking Basics for Dummies", all edited and published by the same publisher.

Talking to media, William Dunnegan, the legal representative of Wiley said that the motive behind the investigation is to discover the personal data of the infringers so that the matter can be solved through a mutual settlement by both the parties. He added that although many people have supported the settlement to solve the matter out of the courtroom for an undisclosed amount, yet there are some who have failed to respond to the allegation, and carpenter is one of them. In such scenario, Wiley is free to move a step ahead to incur the losses that he had suffered, said Dunnegan.

William Pauley, the Judge of the Federal court said that the penalty of $7000 charged from Carpenter is not only for violation of the copyright act. He has to pay $5000 for copyright infringement, while $2000 for trademark forgery.
