Private Island Launch in Thousand Islands , Indonesia
The Des Indes Collection owner David Salman opens his private island for holiday rentals in the Thousand Islands, Indonesia.
Online, July 17, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Isle Des Indes is a dream realized by Indonesian antiques aficionado Mr. David Salman. David first discovered the island over twenty years ago. It had been left unattended for years, had lost some of its foliage and suffered some reef erosion. With a clear vision in mind, David purchased the island and began restoring the delicate ecosystem. He constructed a natural stone breakwater to prevent currents from damaging the island then began a reef protection program, educating local fishermen and re-attaching corals. The results after several years are outstanding. Not only is the coral reef thriving, but the beautiful sandy beaches on all sides of the island have also been preserved. On land he planted numerous indigenous trees including pandanas and whistling sea pines known as casuarinas.
Isle Des Indes is set amidst Indonesia's Thousand Islands (Pulau Seribu), a collection of stunning tropical islands in the Java Sea near to Jakarta. Despite its name, The Thousand Islands comprise approximately 130 small islands surrounded by a National Marine Park and hundreds of coral reefs.
Approximately forty miles offshore from Jakarta, Isle Des Indes is a petite jewel in the Java Sea reachable via a leisurely cruise on board a 60ft vintage motor sailing yacht the 'Raden Mas'. The vessel originated from the English town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight, an area synonymous with boat building. Commissioned over 40 years ago by a British aristocrat, she has been immaculately maintained, with timber decks, brass fittings and four cabins characterized by varnished wooden bulk heads and old world charm. In keeping with her aristocratic roots, when she arrived in Indonesia she was renamed 'Raden Mas' which is a Javanese Nobleman's title. Speedboat or helicopter transfers are also available for those who prefer a speedier journey.
Capable of housing a maximum of 8 adult guests at present, Isle Des Indes is a truly private island rental. It is only available to rent in its entirety. Five traditional buildings are dotted around the island, enhancing the feeling of absolute privacy and serenity. The main Joglo, large open atrium serving as a living and dining area, also houses two bedroom suites and a corridor which leads to two colonial style bathrooms. In the antique Colonial style which typifies all Des Indes Collection holiday rentals, the antique Joglo was carefully disassembled piece by piece before being transported to the island where craftsmen restored it to its former glory less than twenty meters from the water's edge.
The Malay guesthouse, which is directly beach front on the sunrise side of the island, includes a master suite with separate bathroom. It houses two beautifully carved antique four-poster beds, adorned with Egyptian cotton sheets and Indonesian hand woven covers. Colonial style louvre doors create shade and open out in the day to create the feel of luxurious camping.
On the east shore, a leisurely three-minute walk from the main house, the Balinese Lumbung is hidden within the tropical jungle garden. Originally designed to store cultivated rice, this Lumbung serves as a bedroom, perfect for older children. The Lumbung is three meters off the ground on a raised platform and offers a stunning ocean vista and fresh sea breezes.
The Bale is a freestanding pavilion where guests convene when the 'ship's bell' rings for dinner and drinks.
Committed to ecologically friendly solutions, a septic tank has been installed as well as a desalination plant to ensure guests can enjoy fresh bathroom water. A natural water treatment system takes waste-water from the showers and washbasins, processes it and recycles it for use in the gardens. Electricity consumption is minimized by using low voltage LED and CFL lighting and limited landscape lighting. All toiletries are kept within antique style containers and organic produce is purchased wherever as possible, avoiding processed products and producing basics such as juices and pastries.
Guests can expect the same exemplary service that has made Villa Des Indes in Bali so popular. Butlers are attentive yet discreet at all times, on hand to attend to every whim. Isle Des Indes staff includes an Island Manager, Private Chefs, Butlers and island cleaning team.
The island is child friendly with lots of activities on offer such as treasure hunts, fishing and boogyboarding. For adults who want to enjoy the scenery, both above and below the water, there are activities such as snorkeling, water skiing, scuba diving and fishing. For those who simply want to relax back and unwind there are massages available and plenty of secluded spots with hammocks and cushions. Vintage motor sailing yacht 'Raden Mas' is also available during guest stays to cruise the neighboring islands.
For holidaymakers who want to combine Isle Des Indes with a stay in Bali, offers are available where guests can enjoy both, staying in 3 bedroom Villa Des Indes I or two bedroom Villa Des Indes II, (situated in a private lane in the stylish seaside village of Seminyak) and later transfer to the island.
